US diner chain heads to Swansea

The funding package has helped Magic Brands Group, owned by successful franchisee Leon Esfahani, to open the Swansea restaurant and will also be used to support the national roll-out of additional diners over the next three years.

The opening of the diner will create 70 new jobs for the local economy, which will include a range of headquarters support staff and on-the-ground diner staff.

Leon Esfahani, managing director of Magic Brands Corp, said: “I’ve banked with HSBC for five years, and they have always provided me with the funding needed to realise my ambitions.

“This latest venture is no exception and I’m incredibly excited to be opening the UK’s first Denny’s with the bank’s backing, as well as creating a large number of jobs for people in Swansea and the surrounding areas.”

Warren Lewis, head of corporate banking in South Wales, said: “HSBC has extensive franchise experience and the team here in South Wales worked closely with our dedicated franchise team to put together a flexible and competitive finance package, which has enabled Leon to open his first Denny’s franchise diner in Swansea.

“We are very proud and excited to be involved in bringing this major US brand to the UK for the first time, and we look forward to continuing our work with Leon as he grows the business in the coming years.”

HSBC has been supporting the UK franchising industry for over 30 years, helping potential franchisors and franchisees to establish their businesses and build their success.

The new Denny’s diner in Swansea will open in a 4,000 sq ft unit at Parc Tawe retail and leisure park, which is currently undergoing a £15 million redevelopment.

The American food chain was founded in 1953 and currently has more than 1,700 restaurants worldwide.

Denny’s will support the local community by opening its doors to homeless people on Christmas Day and will also sponsor the local under 12s football team, Llandarcy FC.
