Amazon Home Services hits UK shores
UK customers will now have the option to book installation or assembly support from a trusted professional at the checkout, even if the customer's products have been purchased elsewhere.
Home Services claims to provide customers with:
- Handpicked Providers: Invite-only tradespeople that are background checked by Amazon
- Happiness Guarantee: All service purchases are guaranteed, and Amazon will work with customers if they are not satisfied with the service
- Upfront Pricing: Each service comes with a pre-defined scope of work and upfront pricing
- Verified Reviews: All reviews are from verified purchases, so customers know they are hearing from real customers
The move can be seen as part of Amazon's wider aim to become "Earth's most customer centric company". One of Amazon's key principles is 'customer obsession', putting the customer first.
Scott Webster, General Manager of Amazon Home Services Europe, commented "We’re thrilled to be expanding Amazon Home Services to the UK as a simple way to book trusted, service professionals. Following our successful launch in the U.S., customers have told us they love the convenience and peace of mind that comes with trusted, professional installation of their products.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer this same experience to UK customers through a network of handpicked, local tradespeople and service providers".
Amazon plan to introduce more eligible UK cities and services in the future.
A similar customer-first focus has been displayed with the introduction of Amazon Key, currently only available in the US. It enables unattended in-home delivery at no extra cost to the customer. Amazon Key aims to improve convenience in more ways than just through delivery. The service offers keyless access for family and friends. Customers can set the frequency and length of time a person has access.
Amazon tries to lock shoppers into the 'Amazon eco-system' through innovations like Amazon Key and Home Services. The notion is that Amazon offers everything a customer would need in one place, meaning they would not have to look to other retailers to fulfil their needs.
