Leicester furniture supplier snaps up new opportunities in Saudi Arabia

Trent Furniture supplies to businesses across the hospitality sector, including bars, restaurants and hotels, through its showroom and website. Its products have attracted buyers from countries across the world, and the company now exports chairs, tables and outdoor furnishings to countries across Europe as well as the UAE and Japan. This latest deal will see the thriving business furnish a 200-person restaurant belonging to Saudi Arabian business Siddique Al Imtiyaz.

The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, HRH Mohammed bin Salman, visited the UK earlier this year and both countries set out an ambition to build £65bn of trade and investment ties in coming years. These closer ties are expected to mean big things for businesses.

Before fulfilling the order, Trent Furniture turned to DIT to ensure it would be compliant with import regulations. DIT assisted the company with a certificate of conformity, a legal requirement for goods shipped into Saudi Arabia, as well as supporting invoices for clients and certificates for goods to pass across the border. 

As a result of the deal, Trent Furniture has created a new role for someone to manage its overseas contracts.

Robert Price, director at Trent Furniture, said: “This deal in Saudi Arabia is a big step for Trent Furniture, and it will act as a gateway to what could be a significant market for us.

“Our website was the key driver of the new business opportunity with the restaurant, but it was the Department for International Trade that helped us to deliver on it.
“Exporting can be a daunting process, especially if you’re going into a new market with new language and legal requirements. But, while there are initial hurdles to overcome, the rewards can be huge. If we can do it, so can you.

“Trent Furniture has strategically used its established online resources to tap into this market. Getting their foot in the door with Siddique Al Imtiyaz will help the firm grow their reputation and open doors to other opportunities in the wider Gulf region.
