Newcastle’s hedgehog lab heading for 100% growth
At the same time, the Newcastle technology firm’s headcount in the first three months grew from 98 to 120, including key hires such as experienced finance director Paul Barrow.
The achievements follow a solid 2016, which recently earned the company major recognition, including:
- Being named in the Prolific North Top 50 Digital Agencies list for the first time, ranked at 38
- Being named 11th fastest growing technology consultancy in the North of England at the GP Bullhound Northern Tech Awards
- Reaching the finals of the Red Herring Top 100 Europe awards, which acknowledge the year’s most promising private tech ventures in the European business region. Winners will be announced in Amsterdam on April 26.
Meanwhile, hedgehog lab CEO and co-founder Sarat Pediredla was named on the BIMA 100 2017, a British Interactive Media Association initiative honouring top leaders in the digital sector.
He said: “Last year saw around 160% growth in revenues. This year, we’re looking to double them once more, as part of a long-term growth plan.
“We are getting approaches from numerous sectors, from healthcare to financial services, and are working with a number of top brands.”
He added that the company’s recent successes had been driven by the hard work of the senior management team, on which Alan Morris has been promoted to Chief Technology Officer and Anthony Dinning to Chief Operating Officer.
“We are sure these promotions - along with insights garnered from Paul Barrow’s two decades in finance - will propel the next stage of our development,” Mr Pediredla said.
“We’re also doubling office space at Generator Studios, Newcastle, as we continue to grow our talented team.”
Established in 2010 as a ‘post-PC’ digital consultancy, hedgehog lab builds apps for mobile, tablets, wearables and similar devices.
Earlier this year, it also launched a new Immersive Technologies division, headed up by Shaun Allan, one of the UK’s foremost experts in virtual and augmented reality.
Mr Allan said: “We’re seeing real interest in these technologies, which can be applied effectively for everything from marketing to safety training.
“Already, we’ve secured large-scale work in the automotive and arts sectors, and have attracted great community involvement through initiatives likes Tilt Brush Tuesdays, through which we invite local creatives explore the world of 3D painting.
“We will also be hosting regular events as members of the VR/AR Association, which will be open to everyone. It’s hard to think of any area in which these developments could not be used.”
