Generator launches scale-up mentoring programme

Following a successful pilot programme last year, which saw Newcastle's App Development outfit Gospelware grow from seven to 18 employees and enjoy a 102% growth in the turnover, the Digital Scale Up Programme starts in January 2018 with applications now open to creative and digital SMEs with 6 employees or more.

Successful applicants will receive expert mentoring and will be armed with all the strategic tools and processes to help them grow.

Generator's Head of Business Support, Emma Whitenstall, explains: “It’s hard for businesses to grow without the tools, strategies, and processes in place that ensure the business is robust enough to grow with demand.

“There have been numerous initiatives around assisting and supporting start-ups in recent years, and this is the next step to help support businesses on their journey to success.”

The programme, which will roll out in January, will be delivered through mentoring sessions in the style of an interim board by a key group of experts, with specialisms ranging from sales, marketing, and finance.

Generator starts the programme with a full diagnostic to determine the company’s status, identify business needs and develop some realistic longer-term goals.  A lead director will be nominated and the business will meet regularly over the 12-month period with mentors to set objectives, review progress and equip beneficiaries with the tools, strategy, processes, and mindset to grow.

Newcastle Start-up Week's Paul Lancaster, said: “It's important that we respect the fact not every business will want to become a Scale Up, but if they do, how can they increase their chances of doing this?

“This is why initiatives like Generator’s ‘Digital Scale Up Programme’ and our own ‘Newcastle Scaleup Summit’ are so important as they match small businesses up with experts who genuinely know what it takes to grow and scale a business.”
