Lidl lands two meaty deals
Edinburgh-based family firm Macsween are a new supplier for Lidl and will supply sliced black pudding, sliced haggis, black pudding and haggis. Macsween will also supply sliced black pudding to another 300 stores across the rest of the UK.
Ayrshire-based butchers ‘We Hae Meat’ will add black eye sausage to the steak slice sausage already listed in a deal worth more than £300,000, with more products scheduled to be released in the next six months.
These deals will see the products sold across all of Lidl’s 91 Scotland stores and will add to the increasing range of Scottish suppliers with Lidl. The Lidl buying team will continue to grow relationships with existing suppliers and cultivate new ones to further develop their expanding range of Scottish sourced lines.
Paul McQuade, senior buyer for Lidl in Scotland said: MacSween and We Hae Meat are traditional family businesses with a strong reputation for quality, which our customers can now enjoy as part of the Lidl Donald & Sons Scottish meats range. Working with the best suppliers in the country is a priority for us and we are continually looking for the best quality Scottish produce to stock in our stores at everyday low prices.
James Macsween, joint managing director at Macsween, said: “When Lidl asked us to produce a haggis and black pudding we jumped at the opportunity. MacSween has been making these products for over 60 years and we make our recipes with ingredients from carefully selected suppliers who share our values - for example, we have been supplied with Scottish oats from John Hogarth in Kelso for over 40 years. We are delighted to be working with Lidl UK and proud to see our new products in Lidl stores”
Carlyn Paton, who runs We Hae Meat with her husband Alex, said: “We are delighted that our sausages, which are made in Ayrshire, have been selected by Lidl in the Donald and Sons meat range in Scotland. We are working on more listings with Lidl and hope they are as successful as the sausage lines in stores now.”
